With Donald Sterling’s ownership nearing its end, what about the future of the L.A. Clippers? Richard Parsons is taking over the day to day management as the CEO of the Clippers. Which would be a difficult undertaking with out all of the scandal and now includes the Franchise being in limbo with no official ownership. Hopefully soon a sale will be completed and the ownership can start over brand new. ESPN has reported that Yao Ming is putting an investment team to make a run at buying the team. What better way to start new than with a new name.
First Off , even if they stay in the same building as the Lakers they need their own identity if they want to step out the Lakeshow’s shadow permanently. So lets Call their location ‘SoCal’. It’s no worse than Golden State or Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Timberwolves’ , Pacers, and the Jazz names invoke the entire state. I don’t think that SoCal is that far out of line.
So here are a list of names more appropriate for L.A. than the Clippers:
- SoCal Osos – The state flag has a bear on it and a lot of people speak Spanish. Not rocket science Oso=Bear.
- SoCal Grinders – Could speak to the hustle of the people trying to make it big. To the coffee and medicinal enthusiasts but would ultimately not be accepted Because, Apps.
- SoCal Riders – Homage to their outdoor culture of bikes motor and pedal, paddle-boards, surfboards, & vintage low vehicles. Also most likely turned down Because, Gangs.
If we must stay with the L.A. name then we have :
- L.A. Golden Lions: Mountain Lions are indigenous to California plus Alliteration. Not hard to see the logic [SUBMISSION by Kev]
- L.A. Liams – Obviously you love him Hollywood. He’s over 60 and you are giving him a third taken movie. Let’s give you what you deserve.
- L.A. Lively – Why not. Minnesota has the Wild. Attach your team to the emotion of excitement. Then you can choose what ever type of mascot you want.
there you go. The list is started. Which names do you hate and which names do you think are better? Comment below or
