How to cast Shadow [ American Gods]

Curiosity finally got the best of me. I had heard of American Gods. I knew they were working on an adaptaion. I had to find out for myself why this book had been so awarded.

This is the second book I’m in the process of listening to on the Overdrive app. Take your library card and register with your local library and you can check out any book they have. But with some  books you still have to get on the waiting list. I enjoy it because I can turn on a book and link my phone through bluetooth to my speaker and do other things while listening to a good book.

I’m not through with the Book yet.  Shadow is protagonist. The character intrigues me. He’s often mentioned as a very large man.  He’s sometimes considered a little daft and others inciteful. Gray eyes with most likely an olive skintone due to the fact that he is questioned if he’s mixed black or native american heritage. He himself does not know.  He starts out as a man facing the receipt of his freedom exiting prison with everything to live for. Before he can appreciate the complexity of what freedom is he looses his wife.  We follow him as he tries to figure out what to believe and what he really wants.

If they are turning this into a Series. The shadow casting has to be right.  For how they marvel at how large of a man I would think that he has to be in the 6’4″-6’6″ range. I thnk of how someone with a size and presence of Michael Clark Duncan who was about 6’4″. Dwayne Johnson is too big of a star and too charasmatic. He would steal the show. He’s also too old. Joe manganiello. also a bit too old. Daneil Cudmore of Colosus X-men fame might be a match. Personally I think Jason Momoa would be a good match but with his Red Road and DC involvement with Batman V Superman , Justice League and Aquaman films. I wonder if he would have time for a commitment of another series.

Whomever the casting director for this project is they have their work cut out for them. This casting will have a lot of sway in the tone of the series.  I’m trigued by the idea of such an ethnically diverse cast. The long this series goes on the more races and gods we will be exposed to.
