2015 Optimism

[Insert your fave New Years quote Here]

It happens every single year without fail. People are filled with this optimism of the new year. Its wonderful to see. No one wants to reproduce last years blunders. So we set goals of what we should change.

Often times we set things that are so different from our current habits that they are difficult to stick to. Thinking of them in the grand scheme of a YEAR can be initimidating and quite daunting.

My suggestion is to make small measurable goals that don’t have words like “Better” or “more” which cannot be quantified.  Example, I have a desire to speak Portuguese. Instead of writing on a piece of paper “Learn Portuguese”. I’m setting the goal to practice 5 minutes daily. It does not seem like a lot but I’m trying to build a habit. I’m not trying to cram the whole language in my head in one day.

What I have found is that the first 30 days are the most difficult. That is when you are cooercing yourself day by day to change this behavior. By the end of that month if you have kept with it then it becomes normal. You start to notice when that change is missed.

Whatever you do make sure that the changes that you are making are for you.
